About the role

This is a two-year fixed term contract to act as the ADS-B Grant Scheme Technical Advisor working within the dynamic NSS programme team environment. The ADS-B Grant Scheme, announced by the government on 4 October 2019, will support the national benefit delivery (safety, environmental, social and economic benefits) of the New Southern Sky (NSS) programme. 


ADS-B is a new transponder system for aircraft that is being introduced world-wide and provides a number of significant safety and efficiency benefits.  The ADS-B Grant Administration Scheme will manage Grant claims from application to payment, on behalf of the CAA.


The Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) Grant Scheme Technical Advisor is responsible for the provision of professional, competent and efficient technical support in relation to the ADS-B Grant Scheme.  The role focuses on the seamless administration of the Grant process end-to-end. The ADS-B Grant Scheme Technical Advisor will work alongside the ADS-B Grant Scheme Administrator.  Both positions will work to the ADS-B Grant Scheme Project Manager.


A day in the life of the ADS-B Grant Scheme Technical Advisor will invariably be focused on processing, from a technical compliance perspective, Grant applications from application to payment. It will be busy and varied and require development of and input to progress reports that will track uptake against targets.


Tasks will include:

  • Staffing the ADS-B Grant Scheme Help Desk and responding to technical email inquiries about the scheme.
  • Assessing and verifying ADS-B Grant applications and claims from a technical perspective.
  • Maintaining and assessing updates to the ADS-B Grant Scheme technical information in relation to the list of Avionics Workshops, list of acceptable equipment, acceptable technical data and data repository.
  • Providing advice to the Airworthiness Unit regarding ADS-B system applications and claims.  


What we’re looking for is someone who wants to build on their existing skills in a project focused and technically aware environment that will constantly challenge you. To be successful in this role you will ensure that:

  • Technical support to the ADS-B Grant Scheme is provided in accordance with CAA policy, guidelines and staff procedures.
  • Contributions to ADS-B Grant Scheme reports and records required for budget and auditing purposes are timely and accurate.
  • ADS-B Grant Scheme outputs are high quality, timely and consistent with legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Unbiased, consistent and credible technical advice is provided to ADS-B Scheme applicants and claimants.
  • The ADS-B Grant Scheme data repository contains accurate and reliable data.
  • Relations between CAA and participants are professional, constructive and support NSS programme outcomes.
  • You will also require an Intermediate level of computer skills with a demonstrated proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
