By joining us, you will be part of a team where meaningful work, collaboration and innovation come together to help keep New Zealand’s skies safe and secure.

At the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, we are constantly evolving to meet the demands of a changing environment and the aviation industry.

Recent legislative changes, along with an organisational realignment, have opened exciting new opportunities across the organisation. These changes are part of a broader effort to better position our teams for the future by enabling us to be more collaborative, efficient and effective in everything we do.

As we step confidently into our role as a modern regulator, we are embracing intelligence-led, risk-based approaches that help us make a real difference for our people and the communities we serve – with a strong value-for-money ethos. We’re also committed to enabling aviation participants to support economic growth in New Zealand's aviation sector.

About the role:

As the Digital Architect within the Digital Team at CAA, you will design and architect digital and ICT solutions across all domains to support our evolving organisational needs. You’ll analyse current systems, recommend and deliver new technologies, including critical equipment like screening tools, while ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with our objectives. You’ll create detailed architectural plans and documentation, oversee the design and implementation of new systems, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and successful delivery.

The starting salary for the Digital Architect is between $115,536 and maximum of $141,751 pa.  Starting salaries are to be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, as well as internal relativities.

What You’ll Bring:

Being a driven and collaborative team player, you can work seamlessly with your colleagues in the Digital Team and across the CAA, other Government agencies as well as our strategic vendor partners to get things done. You’ll have proven expertise in developing solution architectures aligned with architectural standards, producing detailed design specifications and plans that work for the CAA environment. You will excel at evaluating strategic priorities, recommending practical digital solutions, and clearly communicating cost-benefit analyses. Your skills span system and network design as well as data modelling, ensuring solutions meet both technical requirements and stakeholder expectations.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to show:

  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in architecture, with familiarity working in the NZ public sector environment.
  • Proven architectural and design capabilities, with a strong record of producing and maintaining clear, detailed documentation.
  • TOGAF certification and familiarity with the New Zealand Government Enterprise Architecture Capability Framework (desirable).
  • Up-to-date awareness of emerging digital and technology trends, with the ability to evaluate their relevance and impact.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in cost-benefit analysis and business case development.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
