By joining us, you will be part of a team where meaningful work, collaboration and innovation come together to help keep New Zealand’s skies safe and secure.

At the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, we are constantly evolving to meet the demands of a changing environment and the aviation industry.

Recent legislative changes, along with an organisational realignment, have opened exciting new opportunities across the CAA.  These changes are part of a broader effort to better position our teams for the future by enabling us to be more collaborative, efficient and effective in everything we do.

As we step confidently into our role as a modern regulator, we are embracing intelligence-led, risk-based approaches that help us make a real difference for our people and the communities we serve – with a strong value-for-money ethos. We’re also committed to enabling aviation participants to support economic growth in New Zealand's aviation sector.

About the Role:

The Aircraft Registrar is responsible for managing the New Zealand Civil Aircraft Register in line with international and local aviation rules. This includes allocating and reserving marks, registering aircraft, recording changes of ownership, assigning Mode S transponder codes, and managing de-registrations.

As the key contact for aircraft owners and operators, the data base ensures registration activities are accurate and timely, supporting aviation safety and maintaining the integrity of the register.

This is an initial 12-month fixed-term role, designed to support our registration services during a critical period. It offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a regulatory environment, build valuable skills, and contribute to an organisation dedicated to ensuring the safety of New Zealand’s skies.

The starting salary is between $64,342 and $78,351 pa, based on the knowledge, skills, and experience you bring to the role, as well as internal relativities.

Why Join CAA NZ:

At the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, our people are at the heart of everything we do. You’ll join a dedicated team committed to aviation safety, collaboration, and public service.

We offer:

  • A competitive salary package
  • Opportunities to gain valuable experience in a modern, intelligence led regulatory environment
  • A culture grounded in professionalism, integrity, transparency, respect, and collaboration
  • Some flexibility to support work-life balance while meeting operational needs

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented professional to maintain the accuracy and integrity of our Register. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to engage effectively with colleagues, participants, and external stakeholders, providing clear, timely, and professional support.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling regulatory processes
  • Excellent communication and client service skills, with confidence to liaise with aircraft owners, operators, and cross functional teams
  • Proven experience to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Sound judgment and the ability to exercise delegated authority responsibly
  • Experience in administration, regulatory compliance, or a similar role (aviation knowledge an advantage, but not essential)
  • Good computer and database management skills
  • The ability to work seamlessly with others, fostering a positive team dynamic.
