This vacancy relates to frontline roles within Aviation Security Group at the Civil Aviation Authority. 

 

New Zealand is experiencing a surge in travel, making this the perfect time to become an Aviation Security Officer (ASO). We have multiple permanent part-time (minimum of 6.5 hours per shift) positions available for our upcoming training intakes in September 2025.

 

What You’ll Do

 

As an ASO, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our airports. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Conducting pre-flight and baggage security screenings for departing passengers.
  • Utilising specialist equipment and processes to maintain aerodrome safety.
  • Performing mobile, foot, and static patrols in designated areas.
  • Checking ID cards are displayed appropriately in security areas.
  • Preventing breaches of aviation security and safety.

 

You’ll receive a comprehensive, paid 12-week classroom-based and on the job training programme, where you’ll earn a NZQA Level 4 qualification. Training will be full time hours with the first part will be conducted in Queenstown, and the second part will occur at the National Training Centre in Christchurch. This does mean that you may be away from your whanau for approximately three weeks at a time, in two blocks during September and October.

To join our team, you need to meet the following criteria:

 

  • Have NZ/Australian citizenship or NZ residency.
  • Have a full, clean NZ driver’s license. 
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced, noisy, and often distracting environment that requires you to maintain strong focus and concentration.
  • Be comfortable with change and prepared to work according to a roster with 30-minute duty rotations, where some - or all duties - can switch at short notice during your shift, depending on operational needs on the day. 
  • Be flexible to work a rostered shift pattern of 6 days on, 3 days off (including days, nights, weekends and public holidays),
  • Be medically fit and willing to undergo a medical assessment.
  • Be available for an in-person assessment centre and interview in early-mid July.
