These vacancies relate to frontline roles within Aviation Security at the Civil Aviation Authority. 


About the role 

 

New Zealand is experiencing a huge growth in travel, so now is a great time to join us as an Aviation Security Officer (ASO). We have multiple permanent part-time positions available for our next intake starting in mid-October 2024.

 

As an ASO you’ll be responsible for:

  • Carrying out pre-flight security screening of departing passengers and their baggage, including carry-on and checked baggage. 
  • Using a variety of equipment and processes to ensure safety within the aerodrome is not compromised. 
  • Performing mobile, foot and static patrols in assigned areas.
  • Carrying out checks to ensure ID cards are displayed appropriately in security areas.
  • Preventing breaches of aviation security and safety in assigned areas. 

 

We offer a paid, comprehensive 6-week training period, supporting you to earn a NZQA Level 4 qualification. Our training is a mix of classroom based and on the job experience in our operation. 3 weeks of our training programme is based in Christchurch or Auckland (November/December) and it's important you can commit to attending.

The base salary for the role starts at $72,187 per annum pro rata, with regular reviews and the opportunity to upskill, and can increase in stages up to $85,501 per annum pro rata, dependent on your experience and proven skills in the role. About you

 

We are looking for people who want to contribute to keeping the skies of Aotearoa New Zealand safe and secure. Our people enjoy working on their feet in a job that has variety and are able to communicate with people from all walks of life. You will need to be a problem solver, have good situational awareness and excellent time management skills. We work a 6/3 shift pattern (3 early shifts, 3 late shifts and 3 days off) 7 days a week, which provides great work/life balance and frees up your time to pursue your own interests and hobbies. Please note: our part-time shifts are a minimum of 6.5 hours per shift.

 

To be considered for a career with AvSec, you must meet the following pre-requisites:

 

  • New Zealand/Australian citizenship or New Zealand residency.
  • Willing to comply with all required Health and Safety procedures.
  • Medically and physically fit and willing to undertake a medical assessment by a licensed practitioner.
  • Able to work a shift pattern of 6 days on and 3 days off (days, nights and weekends, with early starts and late finishes).
  • Have a full, clean, current New Zealand drivers licence.

 

Due to the requirements of the role those with colour vision deficiencies, recent serious injuries or criminal convictions will not be considered.
